In February 2009 the world was introduced to an application that would change the world of communication, it was not the first messaging app but it certainly was revolutionary. Whatsapp changed the world in a way that was commendable and at this point, it is hard for most people to imagine their life without something like Whatsapp especially in a country like India. With all its advantages it also brought the biggest disadvantage which was the ease of perpetuation of fake news. However, this is not limited to Whatsapp but it is certainly is the biggest catalyst in creating the ecosystem that can potentially cost someone their life.
I sensed something in the woods, it was moving slowly towards me. I could hear the twigs breaking and the dried leaves rustling. As it moved further adrenalin rushed through my veins and in a span of nanoseconds I drew my knife and threw it in the direction of the sound, due to my intense training lately the knife hit the target perfectly, which was the brain of "the walking dead". And as its body fell on the ground I woke up. "Phew, it was a dream, the apocalypse not here yet," I said wiping the sweat on my forehead and picked up my phone to check Instagram, the first story I saw read "Oxygen Cylinder Required". I wondered "Maybe it is here."
As I came to my senses all I could see were large stretches of railway tracks. I was covered in blood, some of it was oozing out of my veins but it was all mine. My body didn’t comply with me as I tried to get up. After an hour or two I gathered enough strength to get up from the side of tracks and made my way to the nearest road. I tried to stop a few people in cars but I think they were not able to notice me, after a while a man on his bicycle stopped in front of me and asked “Kya hua bhayya?, aao baitho mai aspatal chod dun” (What happened brother? Come let me drop you to the hospital.)
India, the land of Rajas and Maharajas, has seen many ups and downs throughout history. After gaining the status of an independent nation, on 26 January 1950 India became the Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic of India. India was finally free of the British Raj; Now it was the duty of the Indians to build a nation that thousands of freedom fighters dreamed of and it was expected of it to continue the legacy of these legends. The foundation of this was laid by brilliant minds like Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar and others who were able to bring about a secular constitution. The word ‘Secular’ was added to the preamble of the constitution in 1975, but it was secular in nature from the very beginning.
